Title: Two registration forms for Chinese immigrant indentured laborers in Cuba
Place Published: Cuba
Publisher:
Date Published: c.1860
Description:
Two printed forms filled out in ink on both sides. Approx. 31.5x43.5 cm (12½x17¼").
The two forms are similar though not identical, but call for basically the same information: Name; nationality (whether China or Yucatan, i.e. native American, though all are Chinese); sex (all are male); age range (nearly all are between 15 and 50); whether single, married or widowed; their Spanish name; the approximate length of the contract; the type of work they do (nearly all are "Campo", i.e. field laborers, one or two offer domestic service); the name and profession of their "patronos" (employers) and where they live. About 100 Chinese laborers in all are registered. Very interesting documents offering information and insight into the employment of Chinese indentured laborers in Cuba.
