Description
A leaf of custom "B" stationery paper signed, dated, and inscribed by American painter Rembrandt Peale (1778-1860), as "Rembrandt Peale / Boston / Dec. 4. 1859" at the center. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. The leaf appears to be laid down on a piece of larger paper or stock card. Expected wear including isolated discoloration, folds, wrinkles, and a former collector's inscriptions found recto and verso. The left edge is deckled, else near fine. The mounted page measures 4.625" x 7.375" while the slab overall measures 6.625" x 10.125."
In 1859, Rembrandt Peale completed a portrait of fellow American artist Thomas Sully (1783-1872), and Sully's portrait of Peale done in the same year (perhaps a return of the favor) can be seen attached to this catalog description. Peale died ten months later nearly to the day of signing this autograph, on October 3, 1860, at the age of 82.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
