Description
The lot features an early, authentic circa 1780-1800 hand-forged iron pipe tomahawk head. The piece is likely frontier blacksmith forged. There are some forging imperfections, signs of its early manufacturing. The piece came out of an Indiana collection and was attributed to the Shawnee Indians. Overall has a nice original patina. The blade shape, bowl and overall design are documented as being found by the Eastern Woodland Indians. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dale Harrison Cincinnati, Ohio. Measures 6 ½ inches long by 2 inches wide across the bottom of the blade.
