Description
1848 RARE 1ed French FASHION Modes Parisiennes DRESS Costume Color Illustrated
Les Modes Parisiennes is a rare, 19th-century French fashion magazine recognized for its plethora of full-page color engravings of dress and costume. In addition to the illustrations, this work contains numerous articles on style, short stories, theatre commentary, cartoons, museum reviews, other topics pertinent to French ladies.
This volume contains issues from September 1848 through February 1849 and includes a 5-installment short story by Alexandre Dumas entitled Le Rose Rouge. Interestingly, this tale bears remarkable resemblance to the Le Chevalier de Maison-Rouge, one of Dumass Marie Antoinette romances, in which a disillusioned French general becomes ensnared in a plot to rescue Marie Antoinette from prison during the Reign of Terror.
