Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 22" x 18". The Salon d'Auton was an important Parisian art exhibition started as a protest by "renegade" French artists such as Edouard Vuillard to challenge the conservative Paris Salon exhibitions. Herbert (1896-1970) was in Paris after his NY Arts Students League training and entered this portrait which was accepted. This work was part of the exhibition that showcased a new direction for painting in the 20th century. Framed: 24" x 20".
