Description
American Cavalry Saber,
New England, late 18th century.
Brass hilt with down turned quillon, flaring counter-guard transitioning with a heart piercing to a narrow knuckle (the knuckle bow is a separate, possibly later, piece of brass attached to the counter-guard at the top of the heart), ball pommel and plain walnut grip; curved single-edge blade with a false edge at the tip.
Blade lg. 29 1/4, overall lg. 35 1/8 in.

Condition
Brass toned to deep yellow, knuckle bow may be restored, tank peen appears old, hilt is loose on the blade tang; blade has scattered areas of gray mottling and light pitting.
