Fernand de Belair, also known as Fernand Mitiffiot de Belair, pseudonym of Claude Antoine Leon Ferdinand Mitiffiot de Belair, born in Lyon on April 30, 1849 where he died on May 6, 1928, is a French painter.He is the father of the painter Pierre de Belair (1892-1956).Son of a notary from Dauphine, Fernand de Belair did his secondary studies in Oullins with the Dominicans, whom he pursued in law in Paris. Prisoner during the war of 1870, he was kept in captivity in Germany where his vocation for painting began. On his return, he became a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Chatigny and traveled to Italy and Spain where he copied the great masters.He exhibited in 1873 at the Salon de Lyon, then in 1876 in Paris, often mythological or religious paintings. In 1891, he received an honorable mention at the Salon des artistes francais.
