An oil painting on canvas depicting a field landscape after an original oil painting by Godofredo Ortega Munoz, Spanish, 1905 to 1982. Inscribed, Ortega Munoz, lower right. Godofredo Ortega Muñoz was a Spanish painter who was born in San Vicente de Alcantara, Extremadura, on February 17, 1899. Ortega Munoz was a self taught artist who began painting at a young age. He was influenced by the work of the Spanish Impressionists, as well as by the French Post-Impressionists. His early paintings were characterized by their use of bright colors and loose brushwork.In the 1920s, Ortega Muñoz began to develop a more personal style, which was characterized by its use of simplified forms and muted colors. His paintings often depicted the landscapes of Extremadura, as well as the people and animals of the region. Ortega Munozs work was exhibited in Spain and abroad, and he received numerous awards and honors. He was a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, and he was awarded the Medalla de Oro al Merito en las Bellas Artes by the Spanish government.
