Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE; Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. late 1st millennium BCE; Vietnam, Dong Son, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE; Valley of Mexico, Aztec, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. An interesting ensemble of 5 artifacts from around the ancient world. A Luristan cast-bronze dagger blade has sharpened edges and a pair of rivet holes near the tang. A Roman iron spear point has a slender blade and a tapered socketing shaft. The sturdy Ban Chiang bronze bracelet is incised with linear motifs and is wearable even today. The petite Dong Son bronze bracelet is adorned with spiraling circles and perhaps once belonged to a child. The Aztec copper axe head is a "tepoztli" - the metal component of a utilitarian or ceremonial axe known as a "tlaximaltepoztli." Size of largest (Roman spearhead): 7.7" L x 0.75" W (19.6 cm x 1.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of John Piscopo, San Diego, California, USA, 1990's or earlier. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
