Description
A pair of nice Bronze Age axes. The first is an Early - Middle Bronze Age flat axe, c. 2500 - 1700 BC, fashioned of copper alloy, with flat profile the length slightly widening with a rounded cutting edge. L: 4 1/8 in (10.7 cm). The second is a bronze palstave of 'Type Breton', West Europe, c. 1400 - 1250 BC, with flanges and stop where it would have been fitted into a forked wooden handle. The axe is thick at base and widens toward the blade in typical fashion. L: 5 1/8 in (13 cm). The first intact, the second appears as if it was broken during use. Both with attractive patination. Ex Seattle private collection.
