Date: 19th century
Description: Sketchy landscape study, probably from a trip to Italy. Showing a group of tall, sheetless trees. On the reverse an ancient Roman ruin is depicted, reminiscent of the Baths of Caracalla or representing a complex of ruins on the Via Appia.Carl Johann Heinrich Krüger studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin under the important German landscape painter Carl Blechen (1798-1840), became his master pupil and, due to illness, substituted for the teacher's classes.

Condition
Rather good condition. Pale foxing. Water stains and discolourations are visible in the lower corners. Minimally damaged in places along the edges. There is a white spot in the upper centre.
