Image Size: 17 1/2 by 11 in. (44 by 26.8 cm.) All measurements are approximate.

Goyo Hashiguchi (1880-1921) was a Japanese Western-style painter and printmaker born in Kagoshima and originally named Kiyoshi. After entering the Tokyo School of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Kuroda, Hashiguchi specialized in Western-style painting and gradually emerged as a prominent artist, taking the name Goyo in nostalgia for the Goyomatsu pine trees in his hometown. Hashiguchi's paintings of beautiful women combine oriental splendor with western realism. The famous Steve Jobs was also interested in Eastern culture and used Goniwa's print "Woman Combing Her Hair" for the monitor of his early Macintosh released in 1984.
