Silk flag bearing block-painted, gold gilt letters that read “IN MEMORIAM / GEN. LANDER POST No. 5, G.A.R. / LYNN MASS.” Measures 47 x 33 inches, framed.
Likely made as a funeral flag for a Massachusetts Civil War veteran who was a member of this Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) post.
“General Lander Post No. 5” was named in honor General Frederick W. Lander, a native of Salem, Massachusetts. General Lander is best remembered today for fighting General “Stonewall” Jackson’s forces in Maryland before dying of disease in late 1862.
Handsomely framed and ready for display. Perfect accompaniment to a Massachusetts, GAR, or Civil War collection.
