Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya, ca. 600 to 1000 CE. A nice set of 2 hand-built pottery bowls from ancient Costa Rica. First is a quintpod bowl bearing 5 hollow and conical legs beneath a deep basin surrounded by a wide, thick rim. The larger vessel is a round-bottomed tripod bowl sans feet that bears red and black linear motifs within the orange-ground basin. Size of largest: 11.875" W x 3.8" H (30.2 cm x 9.7 cm); (quintpod): 8.3" W x 3.5" H (21.1 cm x 8.9 cm)
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Repairs to both bowls, with losses to legs of larger bowl. Both vessels have light abrasions, fading to pigment, small nicks, and light encrustations. Good preservation to decorative motifs on larger vessel.
