Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine personal dagger known as a kris. The hand-carved wooden handle bears a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and the silvered copper spacer disc is inlaid with several faceted glass cabochons. The forged-iron blade has a straight profile with sharpened edges, a protruding hand guard, and an intricate forging pattern formed with strips of lighter nickel. The wooden sheath has a polished guard protector above the blade housing, and the housing itself is covered by a 69.05% silver jacket bearing lovely foliage motifs in repousse. Condition
Blade housing reattached to bottom of guard protector. Sheath jacket is removable from blade housing. Very light oxidation to blade, otherwise in excellent condition with great patina.
