Description
**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid-20th century CE. A fine kris (keris), a personal ceremonial sword used throughout Indonesia. The hand-carved wooden handle features a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and a hemispherical silver (94%) spacer cap rests beneath. The forged carbon-steel blade has a gentle serpentine profile, a projecting hand guard along the shoulder, and strands of lighter material woven in to create an attractive zebra-stripe pattern. The wooden sheath is composed of a guard protector as well as a blade housing protected by a removable silver (94%) sheath jacket adorned with dense foliate and avian motifs. A fabulous example of a kris from Indonesia! Size (w/ sheath): 7.5" W x 19.6" H (19 cm x 49.8 cm); length of blade: 14.9" L (37.8 cm); quality of silver: 94%.

Condition
Sheath jacket is removable. Minor chips to interior wooden blade housing on sheath, light abrasions to sheath jacket and blade. Light earthen deposits and nice patina throughout.
