Description
FABERGE - ANTIQUE RUSSIAN SILVER PERFUME BOTTLE, MARKED
Russian Empire gilt-silver perfume bottle. Casting, engraving, gilding. The top of the bottle is decorated with a miniature artichoke, the base is decorated with relief leaves. The first half of the 19th-century. Nice Faberge item. When you touch and hold a piece of FABERGE sterling you are in contact with something very special coming down to you not only from the era of the czars but of an ancestry far more ancient: for it is typical of all the imperial courts there have ever been.
HALLMARKS: '88' silver standard next to a female head in a kokoshnik turned to the right; the initials 'FA' in Cyrillic for Feodor Afanassiev (1883-1907) - famous FABERGE silver master - please see information below.
For sample we put screenshot from Christie's with halmarks: FABERDE + FA (Feodor Afanassiev) + scratch inventory numbers (usually used by Faberge company).
CONDITION: Very good with minor scratches to gilding. The item is described to the best of our knowledge. Please refer to pictures and email with any questions.
PROVENANCE: From an Upstate New York Home.
DIMENSIONS: H: 2 9/16 inches (6.5 cm). D: 1 15/16 inches (5 cm). Weight: 3.1 oz (88 grams).

WORKMASTER: Feodor Alexeievich Afanasiev was apprenticed to the silversmith E. Sistonen 1883 and 1888 and worked as a journeyman, for the jeweller Karl Bokh from 1888 to 1907. While employed by Bock, he worked on his master's degree, was granted his rights and certificate in 1907, and allowed to use a master's mark, the use of which was strictly enforced by assay laws in Imperial Russia. Thereafter he ran a small workshop for FABERGE at 24 Bolshaya Morskaya specializing in miniature Easter Eggs, small articles made of silver-gilt and guilloche enamel and hardstone objects mounted with enameled silver-gilt mounts. His mark is FA in Russian Cyrillic.
