FABERGE - RARE ANTIQUE RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER TEA CUP and SAUCER
The cup has a wonderful design with a stylized handle in the form of a curved reed stem. The surface decorated with gilding, engraved floral patterns, and a commemorative inscription in Russian: 'FOR TANYA FROM FATHER, 25 / XII 1912'. The top rim and the base of the cup are adorned with a row of embossed fleur-de-lis. Nice Faberge item. When you touch and hold a piece of FABERGE sterling you are in contact with something very special coming down to you not only from the era of the czars but of an ancestry far more ancient: for it is typical of all the imperial courts there have ever been.
HALLMARKS: '84' for silver standard next to a female head in a kokoshnik turned to the left; the maker's initials 'A.F.' in Cyrillic for Agathon FABERGE - jeweler, art collector, SON of the famous jewelry master Peter Karl Gustavovich FABERGE - please see information below.

WIKIPEDIA: Agathon FABERGE - jeweler, art collector, son of the famous jewelry master Peter Karl Gustavovich FABERGE, creator of FABERGE eggs. World's famous philatelist. He was the brother of Aleksandrine Caroline Koschke, Wilhelmine Charlotte Nicolay, Carl FABERGE and Agatha Emilie FABERGE. He joined his father's house of FABERGE in 1892. From 1887 to 1892, he studied at the German Petri-Schule in St. Petersburg and at the commercial branch of the Wiedemann gymnasium. In May 1895, he entered into his father's business at FABERGE. 1900s - 1910s, he led the affairs of the company with his father and brother Evgeny Karlovich. In 1897 he married the daughter of the Riga merchant Lydia Treiberg. Since 1898 - an expert at the Diamond Room of the Winter Palace, an appraiser of the Loan Fund, an appraiser of His Imperial Majesty. Following the results of the exhibition in Paris in 1900 he was awarded a gold medal. Agathon did't have enough money and was unjustly accused by his father of stealing, after which their relationship ended and Agathon left Russia. In 1916, his father was unjustly accusing Agathon of large embezzlement of the company's money, after which their relationship ended (only after several years, the former employee of the company Otto Bauer admitted that he was the one who took large amount of money). Agathon opened an antique store with his friend and partner in art business A.K. Rudanovsky.
