RIAA Platinum LP award for Kool & The Gang album Emergency. The album was released on Nov. 15, 1984 and was certified Platinum for one million sold on July 12, 1985. 

The album produced four top 20 hit singles in the U.S. including "Fresh" (#9), "Misled" (#10), "Emergency" (#18), and its biggest hit "Cherish" (#2). The album also did well in the UK. By 1986 the release was certified 2x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA.

Detailed Item Description: This is a first presentation RIAA Platinum award made in 1985 making it approximately 36 years old. It is presented to Charles Tobin. It is not known what role Tobin played in the creation or marketing of the release. 

The award is in Good to VG condition with only some minor scratches and mars on its frame and plexiglass. This award has been rebacked.

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home.
