Description
This is an antique 1860 Presidential Election Ferrotype Jugate for John Bell (Tennessee, 1796-1869) and Edward Everett (Massachusetts, 1794-1865). Bell and Everett ran on the Constitutional Union ticket, a third party which took a neutral stance on the issue of slavery. Ultimately, Lincoln won the election by garnering nearly every Northern electoral vote. Bell took 12.6% of the nationwide popular vote, carried three states in the Upper South, and finished with the second highest vote total in each remaining slave state that held a popular vote.
