1872 MAPS Geological Survey USA Territories Montana Idaho Wyoming Utah GEOLOGY
Commissioned by the United States government, Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden and a select crew were sent to further explore the American West. Nearing its centennial, the United States was still being formally explored, mapped, and annexed. Hayden and his team were some of the first to document what would become Yellowstone.
