3 WWI & WWII War Posters, Beautiful Bright Colors, Perfect for Display

A group of three war posters dating from the First and Second World Wars, and later. The propaganda imagery was used to both raise money and recruit men into service. Includes a WWI "Munitions, Men, and Money" poster [No. 116, Sergeant Bros., Ltd. London, ca. 1915], a WWII "The Job is only half done: Let's finish it: Keep America Free!" poster [Fisher Body Division, General Motors Corps., 1945], and a 1975 version of the iconic Uncle Sam Recruitment poster [U.S. Government Printing Office, 1975]. The WWI Munitions poster has been matted to the overall size of 23" x 30". The posters have varying degrees of wear, bumping, creasing, and pin holes at the corners and edges. Some flattened folds and minor creasing in places. All have retained their beautiful bright colors and would be fantastic for display.

War posters were designed to be hung in public places, often outdoors, where they competed with multiple distractions for people’s attention. It was vital that a poster’s message be understood quickly and forcefully. Even before the war, poster design was trending towards greater simplicity. The challenge for the poster artist was to eliminate all non-essential elements from their design while retaining an immediately recognizable image and message. Many World War I and II posters, from both sides of the conflict, employed imagery and metaphors that would be instantly recognizable to the average citizen.
