Description
Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A sturdy axe head cast from copper via the lost wax (cire perdue) technique. The weapon features a vertical blade with rounded corners, a corseted midsection, and a flared socketing shaft. Four bands of incised foliage radiate around a petite nubbin protruding from the verso and imbue the axe head with a personalized presentation that stands out against layers of thick patina.
