Description
1856 Border War 1ed Three Years on Kansas Missouri SLAVERY Civil War McNamara
A rare 1856 first edition of John McNamaras “Three Years on the Kansas Border” – an account of life in pre-Civil War Kansas and Missouri. Beginning in 1854, a series of small battles broke out between Kansas and Missouri which have colloquially become known as the border wars, most of which were over whether or not slavery should be legal in both states. Other notable debates included which state would join the Union as a slave state.
According to Kanzana,
“McNamara was a staunch anti-slavery man who believed it was his duty to preach against slavery”.
