Description
Group to Captain G.C. Fahnestock, U.S.A.A.F, U.S. citizen who completed an operational tour with the RCAF in Europe in 1941-1942, flying with both 101 squadrons and 99 squadrons. He transferred to the Army Air Corps in 1943 and continued flying missions in B-26's, with the 405th Bomb Squadron. While serving as a co-pilot on a raid to Zudsusques, he was shot down and taken prisoner. He was held at Stalag Luft III, and survived the infamous "Death march" in 1945. He was eventually liberated from Stalag Luft 7A (Mooseburg). This exceptional lot includes his original mounted medals, USAAF medal cases, RCAF Log Book with all missions noted, rare 451st Bomb Squadron Unit History (he is noted in the book), engraved vintage pilot's bracelet, 1941 RCAF Officer's commission document, and misc. insignia.
