Description
Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Framed. Dimensions: 24" x 30". Painting autumn scenes in New England was a quintessential ritual for Cirino. "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower". So stated Paul Cadmus, articulating the visual delight that skilled artists like Cirino found in autumn scenes. Cirino's fluid painting technique showed a keen understanding of composition and skillful craftsmanship in manipulating oil pigments, to re-create the effects of light reflecting off leaves. A keen student of nature, Cirino painted outdoors for his entire career. He was a kindred spirit to the Impressionists and focused on his personal interpretation of the subject. In 1949, the New York Times critic wrote of one of his paintings, “one of the more honest and sensitive examples of this genre.”
