Description
A Maya vessel in the form of a dog standing on four very thin, straight legs. A circular opening is placed on the back. The head has been painted red with the exception of a brown stripe between the ears. The dog's mouth is open and the tongue is extended. Burnished brown ceramic with red-orange slip. 600 CE to 900 CE. Guatemala. 7" x 5".Condition: Very good, with pressure cracks and no apparent breaks or repairs.Provenance: From the Boeckman Collection. Dallas, Texas. Acquired 4/10/1971. From the collection of Ted Van Dyke.
