Description
[Civil War]. Andrew Johnson Document Twice Signed while Military Governor of Tennessee. One partially printed page, 8" x 10", Nashville, Tennessee; September 29, 1863. A requisition for fuel for "Brigr Genl. Andrew Johnson stationed at Nashville Tenn for the month of September 1863." President Lincoln appointed Johnson military governor of Tennessee with the rank of brigadier general on March 12, 1862. Autograph material from Johnson while general appears infrequently and this particular document is especially notable as it is signed in full twice, "Andrew Johnson" with the bottom signature including rank. It is accompanied by a hand-colored engraved vignette portrait of Johnson by H. B. Hall's Sons. Condition: Lightly wrinkled. Paperclip rust stain to upper margins.
