A significant compilation of information about colonization and economic development, of particular interest for articles and pictures relating to Mormon settlements, such as Colonia Diaz, Colonia Juárez, both in Chihuahua, and others. Mormon settlements grew in Mexico in the 1880s, part of the church's larger campaign to establish the State of Deseret while evading the anti-polygamy Edmunds Act of 1882. The Mexican government was happy to welcome a socially cohesive, skilled and educated work force.
