Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro culture, ca. 300 BCE to 100 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery jar of spherical form with a rounded but slightly stable base, a gently carinated midsection, and a thick rim above a sloped shoulder. Intricate linear and geometric motifs are painted in red and black pigment across the cream-hued ground to create an eye-catching presentation. Size: 4.85" Diameter x 4.4" H (12.3 cm x 11.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010

Minor abrasions and fading to pigment commensurate with age, with light encrustations and earthen deposits, and a few small spalls, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to painted motifs. Old inventory label beneath base.
