Description
For your consideration is a Nippon Moriage Iris Flower Bowl with Japanese Delicas Seed Bead floral arrangement. Moriage dates back to the 17th century in Japan and the creation of what is now called Satsuma. In the Satsuma region in Southern Japan there was a burgeoning Korean immigrant population that was producing a variety of pottery at the time. Moriage is a common name on slip or colored clay string decoration, mostly on Japanese porcelain, in look not unlike 'cake frosting' in which a diluted clay has been used to give the piece a three dimensional appearance. A painstaking technique involved building up areas of enamel to produce a three-dimensional effect. This small floral bowl features hand painted Irises with a hand beaded floral arrangement of Japanese Delicas seed beads. The bowl is in good overall condition, no obvious damage noted, measures 4.5"W x 3.5"H
