c. 1820 Early 19th Century, "Dr. Franklin's Maxim" Child's Cup with Black Transfers and Two Vignettes, England, Very Fine.
This lovely Child's Cup measures about 2.75" in diameter and 2.75" tall. Its text reads, in full:
"Franklin's Maxims / Sloth, like rust, consumes faster than labor wears while the used key is always bright / God helps them that help themselves Lost time is never found again".
Two black transfer vignette images, one shows a man carrying a huge key and the other shows a man swimming his way to the shore of a river, while another man watches, perhaps preparing to come to the swimmer's rescue. Nice for display.
