Signed check, 6.25" x 2.75", Byrdstown, TN, dated October 31, 1951. Check number 757 was drawn on Pickett County Bank & Trust Co. with a payment of $7.00 made out to Woodrow York. Boldly signed by Sgt. York as "Sgt Alvin C York" at the lower right. With cancel cuts, creasing, a slight tear to the lower left, and evidence of prior mounting on verso, not affecting the quality of the bold signature.
Alvin Cullum York, also known as Sergeant York, was one of the most decorated United States Army soldiers of World War I. He received the Medal of Honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, gathering 35 machine guns, killing at least 25 enemy soldiers and capturing 132 prisoners.
