18 CDVs, most featuring portraits of Union generals, including:

Samuel P. Heintzelman (2). First, autographed below image, "S.P. Heintzelman, Major Genl." Washington, DC: Brady. Second, New York, NY: Brady, Anthony (top edge trimmed). -- George McClellan. New York, NY: Brady, Anthony, 1862 (toning). -- Montgomery C. Meigs. New York, NY: Brady (toning). -- Henry Prince, WIA Seminole Wars and Mexican War. Uncredited (print/mount edges trimmed). -- Winfield Scott (2). First, Washington, DC: Brady, 1861 (toning, residue and surface loss to mount verso). Second (after lithograph/engraving), Boston, MA: Allen & Horton (toning, soiling, some fading to print, trimmed edges). -- Irvin McDowell. New York: Brady, Anthony (print/mount significantly trimmed). -- David Hunter. New York, NY: D. Appleton & Co. (fading, some soiling, print/mount trimmed). -- Silas Casey. New York, NY: Brady, Anthony (mount trimmed). -- Richard Sherwood Satterlee, served throughout the war as head of the Union Army's Medical Purveyor's Office in New York City. New York: Brady. -- Joseph Gilbert Totten, Chief Engineer in War of 1812, Chief Engineer in the Corps of Engineers during the Civil War. New York, NY: Brady (toning, residue on mount verso). -- Stewart Van Vliet. Washington, DC: R.W. Addis (toning, some soiling, trimmed print/mount). -- 3 CDVs of Stewart Van Vliet's wife and two sons as identified by photocopies of original album pages in which the cartes were housed, including Sarah Jane Van Vliet (1), Fred Van Vliet (1), and Robert Campbell Van Vliet (1). Two CDVs are credited to R.W. Addis, Washington, DC, one is uncredited. -- George Stoneman (after lithograph/engraving). New Bedford, MA: Charles Taber & Co. (toning, print/mount trimmed). -- John White Geary (after lithograph/engraving). Uncredited (soiling, print/mount trimmed).

Together, 18 CDVs, most showing Union generals who served in the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. Condition generally good to very good. Several with toning, trimmed edges, and some residue/wear to versos.

Provenance: Acquired from the great grandson of Union General Edward Griffin Beckwith (1818-1881) (consignor relates). Beckwith commanded the defenses of New Orleans from August 1863 - January 1864, after the fall of New Orleans in 1862.
