Description
A finely carved wooden hook idol which were considered patron spirits of warfare and hunting. This small handheld example was carried in net bags by their owners to bring success in hunting and battle. Yimam peoples, Karawari River, Middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea. The idol measures 20.5 inches on professional custom display stand. Provenance: A Private New York collection since the 1970's.
