Splendid Empire binding. Ornate blue cont. leather with multiple gold-stamped vegetal, zoomorphic and figurative borders and inlaid gold-stamped border of red leather, corner fleurons, rich standing and inner edge gilt, triple gilt edges (somewhat discoloured, back cover somewhat more stained and rubbed). - Rare, only one copy verifiable for us in Worldcat (Bibliothèque nationale, Paris). In the hand binding of Giovanni Marenigh, with his label. - Poem written by de Géramb on the occasion of the marriage of Francis I of Austria and Maria Ludovica Beatrix in 1808. De Géramb (1772-1848) is a somewhat elusive figure, an alleged aristocrat who fought against the French Revolution. He was an Austrian chamberlain in Vienna, commander of a free corps against Napoleon I, colonel of the Imperial and Royal Armyand finally a Trappist monk and Procurator General of the Trappist Order. He published numerous religious works and extensive topographical reports on his travels, which took him to Italy, Spain and Jerusalem, among other places. - Endpapers oxidised in the margins. Minimally browned. Good copy.

Im Handeinband von Giovanni Marenigh, mit dessen Etikett. - Von de Géramb anlässlich der Vermählung von Franz I. von Österreich und Maria Ludovika Beatrix im Jahre 1808 verfasstes Gedicht. De Géramb (1772-1848) ist eine etwas schwer fassbare Figur, ein angeblicher Aristokrat, der gegen die Französische Revolution kämpfte. Er war österreichischer Kammerherr in Wien, Kommandeur eines Freikorps gegen Napoleon I., Oberst des k.k. Heeres, Staatsgefangener in Frankreich, schließlich Trappistenmönch und Generalprokurator des Trappistenordens. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche religiöse Werke und umfangreiche topographische Berichte über seine Reisen, die ihn u.a. nach Italien, Spanien und Jerusalem führten. - Vorsätze in den Rändern oxidiert. Minimal gebräunt. Gutes Exemplar.
