BIOGRAPHY:
Natural son of Justine Pasquier, Fran?ois Pasquier was born in Perpignan in 1901 is a French landscape, marine and genre painter, poster designer and illustrator.1917: Pasquier joins the navy and enters the School of Marine Mechanics in Lorient. He remained there until 1923.1923: Pasquier is admitted to the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Toulon where the workshop master is Edmond Barraboux, a naval painter.1928: With the sculptor Francois Comaills, Pasquier creates the sets for Phedre performed by the Comedie-Francaise at the Ceret arenas. Sends a painting to the Salon d'Automne which brings him great success.1933: Pasquier sends a painting to the Salon D'Automne. The State buys a painting which is now displayed in the rooms of the National Assembly.1935: First private exhibition, avenue Kleber. The State buys two paintings.1939: Pasquier took part in the first exhibition of Peintres loufoques, presented by Pierre Dac. The State buys the Catalan headdress deposited at the Montoire Town Hall. Pasquier draws up the decoration project for the Touquet casino for the management of the Establishment.1939-1944: Pasquier settles in Vaison-la-Romaine, at the Mas du Castel where he organizes an exhibition. June 10, 1944, the farmhouse is ransacked by the SS.1944-1946: Pasquier obtains a gold medal at the Santons exhibition in Avignon. He exhibits in Perpignan, Vaison, Carpentras. He founded the National Union of Intellectuals in Vaison, whose primary concern was to help restore a Gothic monument in the old town. Send a painting to the first Catalan Art Salon in Paris.1947-1950: Year of exhibitions and production. He presents works in Tarascon; Spring Salon: in Avignon; in Nimes, Salon Rhodanien; in Carpentras: Painters of the Comtat. Private exhibition in Perpignan, who bought a work from him. In 1948, took part in the Occitans exhibition in Perpignan, in that of the Provence group in Les Baux; at the Salon Bleu in Vaison; to that of the Union of Plastic Arts in Avignon.1949: Exhibited on the Test Bench at the Carcassonne Museum, to the Comtat painters. Period of turmoil and uncertainty. His painting expresses itself on the one hand towards the synthesis of masses and on the other hand reveals a sort of decomposition by planes in which the line and the touch cooperate. The artist then seeks to contrast the large plans of a concrete object so as to move from one to the other while omitting transitions. In 1951, the state bought the fishermen .1950: The painter returns to Paris and finds his studio requisitioned. However, he continues to paint. Illustrates my Brittany by Jean Olibo.1957: Participation in the Cannes Grand Prix. Purchase by the City of Paris of its Collioure canvas. Summary exhibition of his work in Perpignan. Pasquier is included in the "trades group", Norval gallery; "Terres Latines" and "Comparisons" exhibition, Independent exhibition. A Montreal gallery bought several paintings from him, including Remaillage de Filets .This year he makes contact with Brittany at Camaret and Locmariaquer, the Gulf of Morbihan and its islands: the trinity on the sea, Auray and Carnac from where he brings back an evocation of the alignments exhibited at the Salon des Independents. He exhibited at the first Salon des Grands et des Jeunes d'histoire which took place in Paris, Cannes and London.1958: The Pro-Arte Gallery organizes an exhibition for Pasquier in Brussels which Flemish TV comments on with enthusiasm. The Dutch press echoes him. The same year Pasquier returned to Brittany, to Roscoff, Saint Pol-de-Leon, to the island of Batz, to Morlaix and pushed on to Dinan, Saint-Malo, Saint-Michel...1959-1960: The exhibition of Witness Painters of their time brought Pasquier great success. The artistic press is interested in its submission: The mechanical age is eating away at the past, which the City of Paris is buying for the national museum of modern art. Salon des Independants, Salon populiste... Pasquier founded in Paris the association of painters and sculptors of Catalan origin: Art Nostre where he was joined by Grau Sala, Antoni Clave, Crusat, Raspaut, Hinsberger, Lafay.Francis Pasquier died August 2, 1969 in Perpignan.
