Description

hand-stitched, 16 pattern blocks with pieced print and/or feed sack fabrics appliqued to plain white fabric, all four sides with repeated border motifs similar to pattern. Together with a "Square on Square / Mosaic Rose" pieced quilt / bed spread, hand-stitched, 63 pattern blocks made of plain and print fabrics sewn onto a fabric square, bordered by 36 striped pattern blocks, edges unfinished. Two pieces total. Mohawk Trail mid 20th century; "Square on Square" late 19th/early 20th century. Mohawk Trail 82" x 83"; "Square on Square" 68 1/2" x 83 1/2".
Provenance: Private collection of Powhatan, VA.

Condition

"Mohawk Trail" in very good overall condition with some light toning and stains, edges unfinished with fraying; "Square on Square" in fair to good overall condition with fading to some fabrics, scattered toning, stains, and small holes, edges with fraying and a few losses, some backing fabrics with shattering and holes.
