AMERICAN "SUNBONNET SUE" AND "BASKET" APPLIQUE AND PIECED QUILTS, LOT OF THREE,hand- and machine-stitched, comprising one "Sunbonnet Sue" applique crib/youth quilt, having 12 pattern blocks with embroidered accents, solid blue grid sashing with one green piece, all-over diagonal grid quilting, applied green binding, two paneled green backing; another "Sunbonnet Sue" applique quilt with 20 pattern blocks having embroidered accents, solid pink grid sashing, white border to all four sides, diagonal straight-line and chain quilting, applied wide pink binding, whole cloth plain backing; and a "Basket / May Basket" pieced and applique quilt, having 24 pattern blocks alternating with plain whole blocks, double border along all four sides, motif and outline quilting, knife and applied binding, two paneled plain backing.First half/mid 20th century.Crib/youth quilt 44 1/4" x 59"; other "Sunbonnet Sue" quilt 63 1/2" x 81"; and "Basket" quilt 70 1/2" x 73".
Provenance: Property from a Youngstown, OH estate.

Condition

Crib/youth quilt in very good overall condition, top with some scattered stains and spotting, binding with some wear, light fading, and small tears, backing in similar condition; other "Sunbonnet Sue" quilt in fair condition with tears and mends mostly at top and bottom ends, some stains and spotting, print fabrics with fading; and "Basket" in very good to excellent overall condition, top with some light toning along center fold lines and to edges, a few stains/spotting, backing with overall light toning. "Basket" with original tracings for quilting present, as made.
