Original Pen & Ink Political Cartoon Titled "Colonel Roosevelt Won't Talk" by Artist Norman Ritchie1916-Dated
1916-Dated, Original Pen and Ink Theodore Roosevelt Political Cartoon, drawn Signed & Dated "1916" by artist Norman Ritchie, Hand-Titled: "Colonel Roosevelt Won't Talk," Choice Very Fine.
President Theodore Roosevelt and his Bull Moose Party are depicted in this wonderful original Pen and Ink Political Cartoon Drawing. Never folded and crisp, it measures 13" x 17" in bold vivid black ink on heavy artist paper, and shows Teddy Roosevelt talking to a newsman on the telephone. The President apparently wants to talk about a River he discovered in Brazil, and the newsman keeps asking about "political" stories until he loses his temper and starts calling the newsman names! Hand-Signed "Norman" in black ink and dated "1916" in pencil within last frame near bottom center. Hand-Titled in pencil in the top margin: "Colonel Roosevelt Won't Talk". Minor light outer edge tone and scattered artist's original pencil notes. Vivid and excellent for display.
William Norman Ritchie (1867-1948) was a very influential political cartoonist and reporter during the late 19th and through first half of the 20th century. He worked for the Boston Post for over 50 years and his Political Satire Cartoons were published by newspapers all over the country. He had a close relationship with President Theodore Roosevelt and was acquaintances with President Calvin Coolidge.
