This rare double-sided Advertising Movie Poster measures 7" x 13.75" and features such promotional lines as: "The Amazing Picture That Took 1,000,000 Years to Make", "Have We Reached The Zenith of Civilization", "Do You Dare To Face The Facts of Life", and others. Printed in green ink on the front, and in Blue and Brown on the back on a period paper is a light original tan in color. Two faint horizontal folds from prior mailing, one small short .5" edge tear at upper right margin. In this 1930 movie, Clarence Darrow made the case for evolution, just as he did in the historic Scopes "Monkey" Trial, only here the jury was the public at large. The Plot was the scientific theory of evolution is explained by Smith College Professor H.M. Parshley, and the famed attorney himself, Clarence Darrow. This is the first example of this poster we have seen or handled. In eight years, this movie will celebrate its 100th birthday. No doubt an extremely rare Poster.
Clarence Seward Darrow (/April 18, 1857 - March 13, 1938) was an American lawyer who became famous in the early 20th century for his involvement in the Leopold and Loeb murder trial and the Scopes "Monkey" Trial. He was a leading member of the American Civil Liberties Union, and a prominent advocate for Georgist economic reform.
Called a "sophisticated country lawyer", Darrow's wit and eloquence made him one of the most prominent attorneys and civil libertarians in the nation.
He defended high-profile clients in many famous trials of the early 20th century, including teenage thrill killers Leopold and Loeb for murdering 14-year-old Robert "Bobby" Franks (1924); teacher John T. Scopes in the Scopes "Monkey" Trial (1925), in which he opposed statesman and orator William Jennings Bryan; and Ossian Sweet in a racially charged self-defense case (1926)
