c. 1948 Original Illustration Art Pen and Ink Cartoon Political Drawing "Wall Street Bulls" by Illustrator Paul Carmack Signed, "Carmack," titled: "Careful Cowboy" in Pencil above the illustration at top margin, regarding the American Stock Market and financial wild bull-ride of its danger and worries, Choice Extremely Fine.
Original Hand-drawn Artist Signed, "Carmack" Political Cartoon, by Illustrator Paul Carmack. Scene shows the American Stock Market bucking wildly in a corral depicting the woes of "Get-Rich-Quick Investors" trying to ride the "Wall Street Bulls". The bucking snorting bucking bull of Wall Street is providing the "Investor" shown hanging on to a jolting hair-raising wild ride! This Illustration page measures a large 1l.5" x14" vividly displayed on heavy artist stock paper and is Hand-Signed, "Carmack" at bottom right. This Cartoon is drawn on crisp heavy illustrator art paper. In a historical context, the Republican candidate Thomas Dewey consistently led in the polls in the weeks before the 1948 presidential election. As Wall Street's preferred candidate, stocks rallied. But the incumbent, President Harry Truman, ultimately won the election and Democrats took control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The race was so tight that the Chicago Daily Tribune, newspaper mistakenly published that "Dewey Defeats Truman". The S&P 500 fell by more than 10% over the next two weeks. Historically significant, this Political Campaign, Wall Street related Cartoon reminds us of recent scary Stock Market activity. An excellent original artwork drawing for framing and display.
Long before Charles Schultz made Snoopy famous, there was another comic strip dog that captured the nation's imagination. That was the Boston Terrier, Snubs. It was appropriate the artist Paul R. Carmack would decide to feature a Boston Terrier since the strip appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, published in Boston. The paper had only been in existence a few years when they hired Carmack. The strip became so popular that Carmack released a series of books compiling the strips. This was a charming family strip with a boy (who Snubs refers to as "the boss") and his dog which kept folks laughing.
