Description
Large unfinished acrylic on canvas painting of a dog, together with an early (1960s) oil on canvas board painting of a woman in 3/4 profile. Both by Richmond, Virginia artist Louis Briel (1945-2021.) Briel specialized in celebrity portraits. His painting of Princess Diana is held in the private collection of Sir Elton John; the singer had the painting accompany him and hang in his dressing room at every stop on his world tour. In 1993, the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian in Washington DC acquired Briel's portrait of tennis great and Richmond, Virginia native Arthur Ashe. The National Portrait Gallery also includes two other Briel paintings in its collection. Dog painting, approx. 30" x 30". Woman, approx. 24" x 18".
