Description
Two landscape paintings by artists associated with St. Louis, Missouri, George Eichbaum and Charles Marks. 1st item: George Calder Eichbaum (Kentucky/Missouri, 1837-1919), "Coast near Gloucester Massachusetts," oil on board painting depicting a rocky shoreline under a partly cloudy blue sky. Signed G.C. Eichbaum lower right and titled en verso on a Frost & Adams Academy Board paper label. Unframed. 12"H x 17"W. Note: George Eichbaum was born in Bowling Green, KY. He studied with George Caleb Bingham and had set up his own studio in St. Louis by 1859, where he became best known for his portraits of prominent subjects. 2nd item: Charles Marks (1917-2007) small oil on board painting depicting a tree in a landscape in a narrow gilt frame. Unsigned. Paper label en verso attributes it to "Charles Marks of St. Louis." Sight - 7" H x 5"W. Frame - 8" H x 6"W. Note: Charles Marks was a member of the St. Louis Artists Guild and the art teacher of Al (Albert) Hirschfeld. (Source: Hirschfeld: The Biography, by Ellen Stern).

Condition
1st item: Some scattered flaking to sky area, spots up to 1/4"L, and significant flaking to edge of image. Loss to upper right corner of board. A few scattered blisters to paint in sky area up to 1/2" diameter. Some craquelure with tenting, upper right quadrant. 6" area of loss with overpainting to lower left edge of image. Overall grime. 2nd item: Light grime and a couple of small scattered inclusions, overall good condition.
