Description
Large framed American Civil War archive containing a letter from Confederate States of America soldier Captain Frederick Davis Wimberly, 6th Regiment, Georgia Infantry(American, 1840-1893), to his wife Isolene (Isoline) Minter Wimberly, dated June 11, 1862, together with a transcription, pass to visit Macon, Georgia dated August 3, 1862, and with signature of Major Elias Griswold, pocket watch with locket, and map of Southeastern Virginia. Certificate of Authenticity for The Lenneth R. Laurence Galleries to the verso. Note: There were two Frederick (Fred) D. Wimberlys serving in the 6th Regiment, Georgia Infantry and both from Twiggs county, Georgia: Frederick D. Wimberly enlisted May 27, 1861 as a Second Lieutenant, promoted First Lieutenant June 10, 1862, Captain July 1, 1862, and killed at Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 17, 1862; Fred D. Wimberly (American, 1840-1893) enlisted as a Private June 15. 1861, promoted to Captain after the Battle of Sharpsburg where he was wounded, and resigned his commission serving out the remainder of the Civil War as a Quartermaster Sergeant in Macon, Georgia, though the 6th Georgia carried his name on their rolls as a Commissary Sergeant as a mark of respect. Condition
Toning and fading to historical paper artifacts with both previously folded; pass with corner missing and edgeware; paper artifacts mounted to foam board; mat is buckled; not examined out of frame.
