Item Details
Description
Elvis Presley-Dr. Hunt's Medical Ledger Books Showing Elvis' Birth "The Birth of Rock and Roll" Museum Exhibited (Jimmy Velvet Collection) W/(2) LOAs - This amazing piece of history represents the "Birth of Rock and Roll," as these are the original medical ledger books which belonged to Dr. Hunt of Tupelo, Mississippi, the Obstetrician who delivered Elvis Presley along with his stillborn twin brother on January 8th, 1935. The lot includes (5) ledger books including one dated January 1st, 1935 through June 1st, 1938, which lists the birth of Elvis Presley. The book lists "Welfare L.C. Mrs. Vernon Presley Pd. $15.00" in Dr. Hunt's handwriting, with "L.C." meaning "labor case". The lot also includes several other ledgers listing various Presley family doctor visits. Dr. Hunt passed away in 1952, never realizing he delivered the baby who would become the world's biggest entertainer. These items were acquired directly from the Hunt family by Jimmy Velvet, who created the Elvis Presley Museum, the only museum in the world which is licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises and Graceland, four years before Graceland opened its doors to the public. Velvet owned and was President of the museum, and amassed the largest authentic collection of artifacts owned by Elvis Presley in the world. The lot includes a 3-page handwritten letter from Dr. Hunt's daughter, Sarah Hunt, regarding her father's notes. The letter states in part, "The 'cousin' who lives nearby told me that after the first baby, the doctor sat down and was writing up his 'notes', when a lady who was present said, 'Dr. Hunt, there is another baby coming! My info was that he said, 'I reckon not,' but got up to see and delivered Elvis, alive, whereas the first baby was dead! (This from a relative who was not then present.) However, from his notes I would say Elvis came first, alive, and was being written up when the second baby was delivered not alive. Otherwise the notes Dr. wrote would indicate SB." The lot also includes a second handwritten letter from Sarah Hunt, a notarized "Bill of Sale and Letter of Authentication" on TCB letterhead from Sarah Hunt detailing the sale of her father's items to Jimmy Velvet, and a certificate of authenticity from the Elvis Presley Museum signed by Jimmy Velvet.
