Item Details
Description
Elvis Presley's 1970s Personally Owned and Worn 18.5mm Black Sapphire and 22K Yellow Gold Ring W/LOA, Letter From Priscilla Presley, and Reference Photo - This ring was owned by Elvis Presley and worn during the 1970s. The ring includes a reference photograph of Elvis on stage during a concert in 1972 wearing the blue "Lucky Suit" and what appears to be this ring. The ring is made of solid 22k yellow gold with ornate shoulders with fleur de lis details and a large 18.5mm black sapphire. The ring is stamped "90%" on the underside and is an incredibly rare example of a piece of Elvis' jewelry in 22k gold. The ring was eventually given by Elvis to Sam Thompson, who was Elvis' good friend and personal bodyguard. Sam Thompson met Elvis in 1972 when Elvis was dating his sister, Linda Thompson, and Sam was working as a police officer in Memphis. Elvis and Sam became fast friends, and Sam went on to head security on several tours before becoming Elvis' personal bodyguard in 1976. The pair were such good friends that Elvis purchased a home in Memphis for Sam in 1973, and Thompson accompanied Elvis on what would be his "Last Vacation" in Hawaii in March, 1977. This ring comes with a letter of authenticity from Sam Thompson, and a 4" x 6" photo of Elvis wearing what appears to be this piece. According to Sam Thompson's recollection, "On August 7, 1977 Elvis rented LibertyLand Amusement Park in Memphis as a gift for his daughter Lisa Marie. That night, while riding the wooden roller coaster, Elvis called me over and handed me a ring for safekeeping. He said he didn't want to lose it on the ride. Later when I tried to return the ring, he just smiled and tole me to keep it." This could be one of the last rings that Elvis gifted to anyone, as he unfortunately passed 9 days later on August 16, 1977. The ring will also include a letter from Priscilla Presley. Ring size: 10.5. (WEIGHT: 16.5 grams)
