Description
Two Anti-Confederate Comic Cartes de Visite, Ca. 1861
Pro-Union comic cartes-de-visites, each measuring approximately 2.25" x 3.25", n.p., n.d. (ca. 1861). The first card depicts a group of artillerymen loading a cannon, aimed toward a charging enemy. The card is titled "How to Cure Rebellion", with the additional caption "This Is the Pill to Cure or Kill." The second card, captioned "Why Don’t You Take It?", depicts a standoff between a pitbull named "Scott" defending Washington and its money, supplies, and food from a southern greyhound named "Jeff", surrounded by bales of cotton. The cards have rounded and worn corners, with minor soiling in places. Both with mounting residue on verso. Overall, very good.
