Description
Late Period, 664-332 B.C. or earlier. A carved stone figure of a falcon standing on a rectangular base with rounded corners symbolising the god Horus; finely detailed carving displaying the plumage and claws; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. similar figurine in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, under Accession Number: O.C.380 (with double crown of Egypt). 93 grams total, 87 mm high including stand (3 3/8 in.). Acquired from Galerie Carrefour, 1 December 1972. Ex Dr. Bernard Coiffu collection.
