Description
# 23 for 10 shares to J. F. Long. Signed by Thomas Hannah and president John H. Mills. Dateline Virginia City, April 1, 1863. Incorporated March 20, 1863. 25c Bond revenue stamp. Location of mine: Virginia district. The Sacramento Daily Union reported on March 30, 1863 that the Watson Consolidated of Virginia City is sinking a shaft eight feet square and of unlimited depth. Their claim is the first north extension of the Burning Moscow and expects to strike it rich. Ten feet of the Watson sold for $25 yesterday. Hannah was elected to the Territorial Council from Gold Hill in 1861 when Nevada was first becoming a Territory. J. Long is assuredly Jerry Long of Dayton. He was an early wheeler and dealer in mining properties and feet within mining properties. He was the first territorial surveyor. In 1858 he laid out the town of Carson City for Abe Curry. Mills was in Nevada in 1859 (or earlier) and was a partner with Sandy Bowers to build the first mill on the Comstock. It was Nevada built. He was also a Territorial Legislature.
